THIS LECTURE IS FULL - Inside the Peace Talks That Changed the World
On November 11, 1918, representatives of France, Britain, and Germany met in a railroad car near Compiègne, France to sign an armistice ending World War I, also known as the Great War and the war to end all wars. The cease-fire took effect at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Much of Europe lay in ruins. Finally, with the armistice, it was "all quiet on the Western Front." Now it was time to make peace. But how can you make peace when what you really want is revenge and territory? Enter United States President Woodrow Wilson, who brought to Paris his dream of a League of Nations to seek "peace everlasting." However, the June 1919 Treaty of Versailles would sow the seeds for World War II and many other future conflicts like the current Jewish-Arab wars. Join Joseph Blanco as he brings this event back to life with a multimedia show featuring authentic film footage and dynamic re-enactments.
