Joseph Blanco will lead a 90 minute multimedia presentation on the Tellico Blockhouse. This presentation is an extension of Joseph’s first presentation and contains new information. Those who came to the first session are encouraged to attend this second session. The Tellico Blockhouse was an early American fort that played a key role in maintaining a peaceful and collaborative relationship with the Overhill Cherokee in this area from 1794 to 1807. You’ll learn how the Blockhouse served as a gatekeeper for non-natives entering Cherokee territory, and how the young United States government took an interest in providing opportunities for the Cherokee to integrate with the growing influx of white people. The presentation comes alive with stories about those who lived and entered the Blockhouse.
